INMED South Africa is a non-profit organisation that has collaborated with various corporate, foundation, and government partners since 2009 to improve the health, lives, and futures of the most vulnerable children in South Africa.
The organisation is legally registered as a non-profit organisation (NPC/PBO) and operates under Section 21, as recognised by the Department of Social Development and SARS.
INMED South Africa’s programs primarily focus on food security through the implementation of adaptive agriculture and aquaponics. The organisation also offers school gardens, nutrition education, and healthy lifestyle training, which can help combat obesity and malnutrition and improve children’s and community health. Furthermore, the organisation’s economic and social development programs focus on climate-smart agriculture for disadvantaged families, subsistence farmers, individuals with disabilities, and youth.
INMED AQUAPONICS® SOCIAL ENTERPRISE (ASE) hub, located in Vanderbijlpark outside Johannesburg, in the Gauteng province of South Africa, serves as a consolidation centre for aquaponics farmers to sell their harvests at higher market rates and purchase inputs such as seedlings and fingerlings at bulk prices. The hub includes commercial aquaponics systems for food production and training purposes. The INMED ASE includes satellite centres run by INMED-trained farming cooperatives, schools, and communities in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State, and Northern Cape provinces of South Africa to provide local training and support.
INMED South Africa envisions expanding its existing programs to a larger scale across South Africa and implementing them in Southern Africa and other regions throughout the African continent. The organisation’s programs are designed to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable children and families by providing access to nutritious food, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. INMED South Africa seeks to create a sustainable future by empowering communities and building resilience to overcome economic, social, and environmental challenges.
